The Great Lakes District is seeking nominations and applications for the following District awards which will be presented at the Great Lakes District Annual Meeting to be held August 30th and 31st in Columbus:

Student Scholarships

2020 Scholarship Winners

For the $2,000 James A. Bixby Memorial Scholarship, we selected Ndemazea Ndobegang. Ndem is an undergraduate student at Ohio University and is involved in OU’s Engineering Ambassadors program, ITE, and ASCE. Additionally, she has completed internships with TEC and ODOT as well as assisting the OU Civil Department as an undergraduate research assistant. She will be pursuing a Master’s Degree at OU starting in the Spring.

For the $1,000 Ohio Section Scholarship, we selected Ryan Hess. Ryan is an undergraduate student at Ohio State University and is involved in OSU’s ASCE chapter. This year he also became a member of ITE and the American Concrete Institute. Ryan has internship experience with Gannett Fleming and worked as a transportation research assistant at OSU during the 2019/2020 school year.

Member Awards

Young Engineer Award

The Young Engineer Award recognizes an individual, under the age of 35, who has made and is making contributions to the transportation engineering profession, the Ohio Section, the Institute and one’s community.  Factors taken into consideration include Section and National membership and committee activity, positions and offices held, professional accomplishments, community involvements, and demonstrated leadership in one’s profession, ITE and the community.

President’s Award

The President’s Award recognizes sustained contribution to the transportation engineering profession, the Ohio Section, the Institute and one’s community.  Factors taken into consideration include Section and National membership and committee activity, positions and offices held, professional accomplishments, community involvements, and demonstrated leadership in one’s profession, ITE and the community.  The recipient of this award must be a member of the Institute as well as the Ohio Section.

Great Lakes Rising Star Award

ITE is committed to cultivating the next generation of our profession. As such, ITE’s Rising Stars Program has been created to identify the next generation and new faces of the transportation profession. It is designed to recognize members under the age of 35 who have already made an impact on the profession, have demonstrated the ability to lead the next generation, and have implemented innovative techniques to solve transportation problems. Each year’s Rising Stars Class will consist of representatives from ITE’s Districts. Each year, one Rising Star will be selected for the Young Member of the Year Award.
